Henry's first week

Welcome to our family blog! We found a few minutes between feedings and diaper changes to upload our first post... enjoy!

First off, we'd like to say thanks for the visits, notes, calls, texts, facebook posts, skywritten messages, emails and cards. They mean a lot and if we haven't gotten back to you yet, we will as soon as we find a few spare minutes (a difficult task just now, but we'll get there eventually)...

Henry arrived home on Saturday, September 11th, and boy has it been busy in these past 9 days. We're still pretty sleep deprived, but are getting used to the multiple-extended-naps-as-sleep routine. Carrie and Henry have had a few health hiccups since we've been home, but nothing too significant and both are on the road to a clean bill of health after a doctor's visit or two. Carrie's mom, Laurel, is staying with us for a few weeks to help us keep things together on the home front, and we don't know where we'd be without her. We're trying to hold on to her as long as DAD Nelson allows!

Henry is doing great. He's been sleeping very well and has such a happy disposition. Every day we're amazed by some new milestone, like stretching during his yawns (he loves to yawn) or tracking us with his eyes. He's still a bit in the red from his birth weight, but he's eating very well (the output doesn't lie!).

Big brother Pete the cat isn't sure what to think of the newest addition to the family. He runs in the opposite direction whenever the little guy cries. Bigger brother Gunnar the greyhound has been sent off to doggie camp for the time being, but we're looking forward to his return next week.

Pictures from the first week are posted at http://gallery.me.com/jonspur# (for grandmas who want to download copies to print at home) and a few highlights are narrated below. Hopefully we'll get new posts uploaded once or twice a week - it's amazing how fast our little man changes.

We're a family of three!

Henry had some early visitors. Here's Grandma Nelson...

... and Grandma Lundeen...

... and Grandpa Nelson

... and even Aunt Patty!

Henry's first glamour shots... he was a big hit with the hospital photo-cart ladies. A heartbreaker at 3 days old (clearly he gets that from the Nelson side of the gene pool).

Examining his bright new world.

Yippee! We're finally leaving the hospital. Mom found time to apply lip gloss (of course) but a spinal headache is keeping her grin slightly more muted than normal.

Time for some firsts - here's the first car ride...

first time in his crib...

first time on his changing table (aka, the torture station)...

first smile caught on film...

first artsy baby photo. Mom and Dad are having a lot of fun practicing our photographic skills on our new favorite subject.

Grandma time!

First time hanging out in his lounge chair. Is that comfy, big foot?

Mommy time! That's definitely a comfy spot.

Can't they make these things more ergonomic?

Much better.

And the tired but happy family. We love you, Henry!

Ya'll come back now, ya hear!?
