Henry's Second Month

Greetings from the Spurlock household! We've finally downloaded photos from the last few months and will update this blog in a series of posts this week. Today's post: October.

Henry has been growing like the proverbial weed and gets more alert and curious every day. He especially loooooves bath time and just being naked in general.

Henry also loves his daddy.

We had several fun visitors this month. Judge Gonzales came to town for an interview and stopped in for dinner one night and to meet our little man. Friends Grant and Amanda and Raquel joined in the fun. It was so awesome to see them.

Jon headed to Washington state for a work trip in October which gave Gramma Nelson an excuse to come help Carrie for a few days. No one elicits squeals and smiles from Henry quite like Laurel.

Gramma also can't resist buying Henry new clothes and goodies. Check out the new hat!

Carrie and good friend Christina packed up Henry and headed to the pumpkin patch one weekend.

The all-important outdoorsy pumpkin patching outfit:

The finished product:

It turns out that two-month-olds aren't really into trick-or-treating. Or candy. Or being awake for much longer than an hour at a time. But that didn't stop mom from getting him into his tootsie roll costume for a few minutes. Four to be exact.

And the backup (and more comfortable) skeleton halloween costume

Russ Morton stopped into town for a few days and popped in to meet Henry. Russ is clearly a natural.

And Friend and neighbor Nora Hoffman-White (who also makes a tasty lasagna -- thanks, Nora!):

Here's Carrie out shopping with the little man. Turns out it takes at least two people to get Henry in and out of this contraption. But he sure looks comfy.

Poor Gunnar has been feeling a little blue these past few weeks. Maybe showing him some love on the blog will cheer him up.

Henry aced his two-month checkup in early November, weighing in at about 11.5 lbs and "standing" 24 inches. Such a big boy!

That's it for month two. More to come soon!

Settling in...

Greetings, friends! We are now officially delinquent bloggers. Shoot. We'll blame it partly on parenting a newborn, partly on taking so many photos of our little guy that it takes about a week to sort through them all, and partly on...well... being a little bit lazy.

Lazy or not, our little family is really getting used to our life of feed/play/nap/repeat, and dare I say that the routine is starting to feel downright normal. Thankfully, Henry is a pretty easy baby. As things have quieted down we've had visits from lots of friends. Here are Christina Roberts and Jon Burks, who kindly brought us a brunch feast.

And Charlotte Montiel, looking lovely as always, who brought some yummy homemade soup.

And Kate DeGenarro, who humored a very talkative Carrie who hadn't spoken to another adult before Kate's mid-afternoon visit that day.

Grandpa also came back into town to relieve Grandma from baby duties for a couple of days. They escaped to Colonial Williamsburg, and even explored the Cape Henry lighthouse in Virginia Beach where Grandma picked up a sweet poster for our Nursery. Grandma Nelson has since returned to California to tend to her 63 year old baby at home. We were sure sad to see her go, but (baby) Dad is glad his run of KFC and pizza dinners has come to an end.

Everyone needs a weird uncle. Thank goodness Uncle Patrick Bumatay stepped up to fill that role. Uncle P gets a special shout out for driving down from NYC to meet Henry.

Lots of other friends have stopped by but managed to sneak out before we forced them to pose for pictures. We are so grateful for the well wishes and yummy meals that have been delivered.

Aside from visits from friends, there aren't many exciting happenings at the Spurlock house. Henry and Mom made their first solo trip out of the house (to the exciting grocery store!), and Henry reports that he loves to snooze in his car seat. But watch out- he sends subtle hints that he doesn't like to be taken out of his cozy seat while he's trying to sleep:

That's our boy!

Henry hit the 10 pound mark recently, and is sporting some super cute fat rolls now that he's filling out. Check out these arms.

We sure do think he's a cute little dude...

Henry, don't move, there's a giraffe behind you...

What?! A giraffe?! What the heck is a giraffe?!

That's it until Daddy gets more photos edited. Go Huskers!!!!!

Two weeks!

So much for our weekly blog updates... Henry is celebrating his fourth week on the planet today, but here we are only posting pictures from week two. Better late than never!

Henry continues to be a good natured and mellow little fellow. We catch him smiling regularly and although our pediatrician tells us these are just gassy expressions and not real smiles, we like to think otherwise. Isn't he cute??

Henry had us a little worried this week due to jaundice and slow weight gain. Things were looking up by the end of the week though - Henry was nearly back up to birthweight, got a thumbs up from his pediatrician, and his slightly yellow appearance started to turn to a rosy pink.

Once his umbilical cord fell off, we gave Henry his first tub bath. Someday he'll protest the publishing of such immodest photos...

And post bath, smiling and looking cute in his hooded towel.

Lucky for us, Grandma Nelson continued her stay for the next couple of weeks. Here she is patiently burping Henry post feeding.

And enjoying more Grandma time on our sunny roof deck...

Dad resumed his regular work schedule this week, but still got to spend plenty of time with his little man.

Gunnar was still at doggie camp this week, put Pete successfully lobbied us for a photo on the blog. Meow.

We continue to be amazed by this perfect, tiny little person we created. Where will these little feet take him in life? We look forward to finding out.
